The Registrar


Dr. Gabriel Adédayò Adébáyò hails from Ijaye in Abeokuta South Local Government of Ogun State. He had his elementary education at the famous Abadina Primary School, Ibadan and Abadina College, Ibadan. He holds a B.Sc (Hons) degree in Sociology from the Premier University. In addition, he has a professional master degree in Industrial and Labour Relations (M.I.L.R) which he bagged in 1997 from the University of Ibadan. His quest for self development made him to return again to the same University to acquire an academic master degree (M.Sc) in Sociology of Work and Industry in 2005 and his Ph.D in 2017. He successfully completed his Professional Degree in Education (PDE) in 2019 and passed the Professional Qualifying Examination of the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN), which also qualifies him as a certified Professional Teacher.

An astute administrator whose distinguishing hallmark is his ability to deliver quality outputs within set timelines He was appointed by the Federal College of Education, Abeokuta as an Administrative officer II in September 1992. His youthfulness, intelligence, dynamism and honesty were spotted early by the then College Provost (Late Prof. E.O.A Ajayi) who subsequently redeployed him from the Establishment division to his office as his Personal Assistant in December 1992, three (3) months after his appointment by the College. He served in this capacity for eleven years (1992 - 2003). His performance and productivity during this period undoubtedly set him apart as a visionary, honest, hard-working, unassuming, intelligent and goal-driven administrator. It is worthy of note to mention that his unassuming nature greatly belies his strength of character and charisma.

Adédayò Adébáyò belongs to the uncommon class of cerebral Professional Administrators. He is a Fellow of the prestigious Nigerian Institute of Management (Chartered) (FNIM); Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Public Diplomacy and Management (FCIDPM); Fellow of the Certified Board of Administrators of Nigeria (FCBA); Fellow of the Institute of Corporate Administration (FCIA); a member of the association of University Administrators (United Kingdom); and an Alumnus of the Administrative Staff College of Nigeria (ASCON), Topo-Badagry. He has attended several capacity-building workshops and conferences, locally and internationally. In his quest to positively contribute to knowledge and further advance the frontiers of professional administration, he has published many scholarly articles on topical management issues in referred and professional journals (both local and international) and delivered keynote addresses and guest lectures at different notable fora. Dr Adebayo is currently the President (2019 - 2020) of Rotary Club of Obantoko, District 9110 Nigeria.

Adebayo started his career in professional administration at the twilight of the analogue era and quickly rose to the challenge brought about by the new wave of globalization; as he promptly embraced the successful transition to the digital era. His dexterity on the use and application of ICT to service-delivery at the Federal College of Education Abeokutahas been remarkably trusted and tested. His robust and professional handling of assignments has many times stood him out as a quintessential asset to the College in the area of service-delivery.

In recognition of his exemplary contributions to the growth of the College, Dayo Adebayo became a recipient of the College Staff Merit Award in 1996; just four years after his appointment in the College. His career path has been characterized with remarkable testimonials of sterling performances and excellence as he rose through the ranks and by the grace of God, was promoted to the position of a Deputy Registrar on 1st October 2006.

On 3rd March 2020, Dr. Adebayo was appointed as the Sixth Registrar of the Oldest Tertiary Institution in Ogun State (Federal College of Education, Abeokuta). Before his appointment, he was the Deputy Registrar in charge of the Records and Scholarship division of the Registry; where he successfully forged a synergy with the College Computer Centre and pioneered the digitization of students records from inception till date and for the first time in the College history facilitated the issuance of the Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) to College graduands on the Convocation day.

Within the College, he has served in more than seventy committees; some of which he headed as Chairman. He recently completed his second and final term as the Chairman of the College Farm Management Committee. As the Deputy Registrar in charge of Council Affairs Division of the College, he was awarded the Distinguished Service Award by the Fourth Governing Council of the College for the professional way he handled the activities of the Council’s secretariat.

His formative years in leadership training dated back to when he joined the Boy Scout Association under the Fourth Ibadan East Local Association. He rose to the position of a Troop Leader and became a strong advocate of the Scout’s motto “Be prepared”; a virtue that later became his defining hallmark in institutional administration and stood him out. He was also a former editor-in-chief and later President of the popular Journalists Club (University of Ibadan), publishers of The Flash magazine. An eloquent testimony to his leadership capabilities was when he was elected as the President of the Essential Needs Acquisition Society (ENAS); the foremost Co-operative Society in the College, at a rather turbulent period when the society was engrossed in bitter feud and crisis brought about by land dispute. He successfully calmed the nerves of all the aggrieved parties, significantly resolved the issue and recovered the amount invested on the project thereby stabilizing the society’s purse.

Within his two years of stewardship as ENAS President, Dayo Adebayo successfully expanded the investment portfolios of the Society and recorded an unprecedented feat by commencing the construction of what today stands as the ENAS COMPLEX at the Federal College of Education, Abeokuta. He was a former Chairman of the Board of Trustees, ENAS, Federal College of Education, Abeokuta.

An active sportsman and a former member of the College Sports Council and the Ogun State Volleyball Association, Dr. Adebayo is very passionate about the game of volleyball and has participated in volleyball competitions at various levels; including the National CESSAN (Colleges of Education Staff Sports Association of Nigeria) Games winning laurels. He is gifted with a fertile mind that enables him to anticipate issues and problems and proffer practical solutions to them. He has generated commendable proposals and blueprints that impacted significantly on the College’s work ethos.

Among his many firsts are the following:

  1. He is the first President of the Faculty of the Social Sciences Students Association, University of Ibadan, Ibadan, Nigeria.
  1. He is a pioneer member of the Management Board of the FCE, Abeokuta Model Secondary School.
  1. He prepared and facilitated the first Scheme of Service and Conditions of Service for the Staff of FCE, Abeokuta Model Secondary School.
  1. He proposed and (with the College Management’s approval), organized the first College-based Training Workshop and Colloquium Held for all Professional Administrators in the College.

(v)     He initiated and obtained approval for the compilation and successful production of the first and second editions of the College Profile and Reference Book (2009 & 2011).

  1. He proposed and facilitated the compilation and successful production of the First National Directory of the Committee of Provosts of Colleges of Education in Nigeria (2002/2003).

(vii)   He compiled and produced the first Comprehensive Brochure on the College Committees (2007 — 2009) of the Federal College of Education, Abeokuta that highlighted their composition and terms of reference as approved by the College Management.

(viii)  He compiled and produced the first audio-visual (Power point) presentation on FCE, Abeokuta that was presented to the University of Ibadan and NUC Resource Assessment Teams that visited the College in respect of the degree affiliation programme of the College with the University of Ibadan on Monday 8th June 2009.

(ix)    He initiated and submitted the proposal for the establishment of the Association of Nigeria Colleges of Education Professional Administrators (ANCOEPA).

(x)     He successfully initiated and organized the First Registry Day of the College, which included the First Distinguished Registry Lecture and Conferment of Awards in 2012.

(xi)    He also initiated and edited the first Book Publication of the College Registry titled: Standard Administrative Ethics and Practice: The College of Education Perspective.

He is happily married to Mrs. Roseline sunmola Adebayo and the union is blessed with godly children.
