PROVOST FEATURES ON OGBC ‘"MEET THE PRESS"

…Discusses Challenges of Teacher Education and the way forward.

The Provost, Dr A.A Ajayi on Thursday, 14th February, 2019 featured on an OGBC Programme “Meet The Press” where he discussed challenges facing Tertiary Institutions especially Colleges of Education and the way forward.

According to him, the Committee of Provosts had proposed that Colleges of Education should be upgraded to run dual mode of studies, this implies 3 years NCE and 2 years degree. This, according to him was because the average Nigerian child looked down on NCE as everyone wants to be a Degree holder and it causes the disparity in the quest for admission between Universities and Colleges of Education.

On Educational policies, Dr Ajayi remarked that Nigeria had good policies on Education and all spheres but lacked the ability to implement these policies adding that while expecting the best from Teachers at all levels, Teachers’ Salaries should be reviewed and paid well because an unhappy person cannot give his best.

While applauding the College Staff, the Provost in his interview Programme said that, Federal College of Education Abeokuta was blessed with quality Lecturers as over 50% were PhD holders noting that the College Management had made tremendous progress in human capacity and Infrastructural development adding that the College had the Capacity of awarding degree Certificates if the Federal Government decided to upgrade it into a Degree Awarding Institution as we have Facilities and Crop of Staff for these.
