BUILDING DOES NOT MAKE A LIBRARY… M.O SALAM

The key note address presenter at the just concluded conference of the Nigerian Library Association, Ogun State Chapter, Dr Mulikat Olawanle Salam has said that, the Library was not just the building but the Amenities and facilities therein. This, she said at the Opening Ceremony of the Conference with the theme “LIBRARY AS A SOCIAL TOOL” held at the Kunle Filani Academic Theatre on Thursday, 7th February, 2019.

Dr M.O Salam classified Library into two - the Public Library which renders services to the specific Community and the Academic Library which serves as a Centre of learning to both Lecturers and Students. According to her, Library at any point in time should be properly funded and be able to stand the test of time.

Other speakers at the Conference which included the Chairman of the Library Association, Ogun State Chapter, Dr Tomori Oyinade; the Librarian, FUNNAB, Dr M. A Onifade; Dr Clement Onagbemi, and Dr T.M Salisu maintained that, it was high time that all Library Professionals awoke and put in their best to ensure that Library performed its role as a medium of spreading Information. They maintained that for Librarians to be Successful Professionals, they must desist from acts that may ruin their Careers and that, they should strive to be active wherever they found themselves.

At the Conference were the host, College Librarian, Dr G.O Oyewole; Chairman Ogun State Chapter of the Association, Dr Tomori Oyinade; Librarians, past and incumbent from the Federal University of Agriculture (FUNNAB) Dr M.O Salam and Dr M.O Onifade respectively, Dr T.M Salisu; Dr Clement Onagbemi alongside other stakeholders.
