Dr Samuel Ikechukwu Ezeani at the 8th Inaugural Lecture of the Federal College of Education, Abeokuta, maintained that National Development is constatly threatened by the continuous increase in immoral behavior by many Nigerians across board. The Inaugural Lecture was held at the COEASU Hall on Tuesday 14th May, 2019.
Dr. S.I. Ezeani who focused his lecture on “Nigerian Moral Development Crisis: Need for Functional Counseling Imperative”, admitted that moral development crisis in Nigeria was a reality and that in spite of the rapid increase in the number of churches and mosques, the present moral crises have not reduced.
He however recommended that: Moral Education should be made compulsory in schools and that the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) should include test for moral development as one of the conditions for qualification and certification of intending professional teachers; Leaders should show good examples in both their private and public lives. He went further by saying that the present reward system in Nigeria which immorally favoured those who cheat on the System should be reversed for good; and that the conferment of National Honours and Chieftaincy Titles should be based on perceived high moral standard.
The Provost, Dr. A.A. Ajayi, in his remarks on the Lecture delivered by the veteran, stated that Dr. S.I. Ezeani was a very hardworking and humble man with self determination and commended him for a good work done.
The lecture ended amidst loud ovation for the Presenter as families, friends, colleagues and well-wishers present stood to appreciate the erudite Scholar.
The occasion witnessed large gathering of people from within and outside the College Community.
