
Federal College of Education, Abeokuta, has taken a significant step towards actualizing the
United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) with the inauguration of groups
dedicated to advancing the 2030 agenda within the institution. The ceremony, which marked
a new chapter in the College’s commitment to sustainable development, was attended by key
stakeholders, including Management, Deans, and Directors. The inauguration concluded with
the formal induction of team leaders and secretaries, marking the beginning of a new era of
commitment to Sustainable Development at the Federal College of Education, Abeokuta.
This milestone event demonstrates the College’s resolve to prioritise Sustainable
Development and underscores the importance of collective effort in achieving the SDGs. As
the groups embark on their work, the institution looks forward to witnessing the positive
impact of their endeavours.
The Resource person, Engr. Prof. Adeniyi Olayanju, provided an insightful overview of the 17
SDGs, highlighting the need for sustainability to be equitable, economically viable, and
environmentally sound. He charged team leaders to drive the development, execution, and
monitoring of SDG strategies, emphasizing that their work would contribute significantly to
the College’s progress.
The Provost, Dr. R.A. Soyele, in his remarks, expressed gratitude to Engr. Prof. Olayanju for
introducing the SDGs to the College, describing the initiative as Amely and value-adding. He
urged group members to strive for excellence, commending the Coordinator of CRIEES, Dr. A.R
Agbonna, for her outstanding efforts. Dr. Soyele thanked Prof. Olayanju for his selfless
contributions and the CRIEES Board for its dedication.
Earlier, in his welcome address, Dr. K.R Ojo, Chairman Board of Centre for Research, Innovation
and E-educational Services (CRIEES), emphasised the importance of teamwork and
collaboration in achieving the SDGs. He prayed for the success of the groups, noting that their
efforts would have a lasting impact on the institution and beyond.
